To celebrate its 20th anniversary, Zadig & Voltaire has opened a new, three-level flagship store in Paris with a bespoke design.

As a rule, the stores across 28 countries in Europe, US and the Far East follow a global brand blueprint for but the new Paris store represents a break in this convention.

Located in a high-traffic location with Rue Cambon on one side and Rue de Rivoli on the other, the brand appointed Brussels-based architect Bernard Dubois to design the new look.

Like the clothing range, the store’s design is sleek, minimalist, strong and masculine. Across the 850 sq m space, concrete is the dominant material which features in the dominant lines. Italian ceppo di gré stone and plaster also feature, with the store illuminated by a light shade or purple that highlights the architecture

The ground floor is dedicated to shoes and accessories while women’s and childrenwear are on the first floor. Menswear is in the basement, which also houses contemporary artworks from artists such as Richard Serra and Julian Schnabel, as well as sculptures by Franz West.

The new approach to store design by Zadig and Voltaire shows a break in tradition can be a good thing.
