THE SHOE FOREST

Hills Avenue shoe store in Tokyo has an installation with a difference – a white forest of shoes.

Giving the word shoe-tree a new and literal meaning, silver metal poles running from floor to ceiling are placed in clusters around the 300 sq m interior. Each pole has a single shoe displayed on plinths at varying heights.

The shoe forest is located around the border of the store, forming the window display for the store, which occupies a corner space. A row of white Ottomans are located in the ‘clearing’ where customers can try on the shoes.

The design approach is minimalist with clean and simple lines. During the day, a monochrome white color scheme exists but by night a warm yellow light illuminates the space, resembling a fading summer’s evening.

A simple installation but one that packs a punch.
