SUPERMARKET X MICROBREWERIES

Supermarkets have long differentiated themselves adding bakeries, wine bar, and cafes; however, one supermarket that has taken it one step forward has added a microbrewery.

Sobeys in Novia Scotia has teamed up with local outfit Chill Street Brewing to open a microbrewery serving beer and cider to have in or take away.

Located in Elmsdale, the new microbrewery occupies the front part of the supermarket with its own entrance. Although run as a separate store, Chill Street Brewing and Sobeys will market food and beer pairings for the benefit of both.

Large stainless steel vats sit behind glass windows adding to the authenticity of brewing on site. Charcoal slate is used for the floor whilst light wooden bench tops feature in the bar area. Copper lights add to the working brewery feel.

Although we have been through a cafe revolution, perhaps we will see more space being reclaimed by pubs and breweries.
