PUTTING DOWN ROOTS IN TORONTO

Canadian lifestyle brand Roots is looking to create flagship stores from its existing portfolio by reinvesting, relocating and refurbishing to elevate key locations.

The Yorkdale Mall store in Toronto is an example of this new concept approach. Along with a refreshed interior it has been supersized to more than double its original footprint by moving to the mall’s new wing, giving it stronger adjacencies, close to Nordstrom and Uniqlo.

Inside the store, the look and feel of the space has also been given a personality injection via a new concept inspired by log cabins in the woods, a subject dear to both the brand’s founders hearts – each has a holiday cabin in Canada’s Algonquin Park. Fitting rooms also reference Canada’s great outdoors with scenic wallpaper and canoe paddles.

Services at the new store include a leather customization station where shoppers can get their bags or apparel personalized via embossing, or colour-patching to the iconic Roots jackets. Customized versions of these jackets are out on display including some owned by celebrities such as pop star Katy Perry and ice hockey legend  Wayne Gretzky.
