PETERSHAM NURSERIES COMES TO THE CITY

South west London institution, Petersham Nurseries, in Richmond, has opened a second outpost in London’s Covent Garden.

The 16,000 sq ft space is home to a deli with a wine cellar, as well as a lifestyle, home and garden store with a florist.  Two restaurants will follow as part of the phase two of the store opening in the winter.

The first Petersham Nurseries has long been a desirable destination for lovers of gardening and high-end food. However, for those that live on the ‘wrong’ side of London, it may seem too far to travel. The Covent Garden location provides an opportunity to expand the brand and reach a greater number of Londoners, as well as the omnipresent tourist market.

Replicating the rural kitchen garden atmosphere of the original location is a hard act to follow, however the designers have successfully delivered an urban garden haven. The courtyard area, which will also house a cocktail bar and restaurant, is festooned with plants and has a central area with giant terracotta pots. On one side of the courtyard is the restaurant, deli and wine store. Opposite is the garden and lifestyle store, which is well stocked with interior products and antiques in every corner.

This is a smart move to bring a successful brand with a cult restaurant to the city.
