Footwear designer to the stars, Manolo Blahnik, has opened his first shoe store in Quatar, located in the Gate Mall in Doha.
Blahnik collaborated with architect Nick Leith-Smith on the store interior and references local influences through the store design. Circles, which have special influence in Islamic geometry, are used across tables and stools and there is a hand-carved hardwood screen that takes pride of place on the rear wall of the store and references Moorish architectural details.
The colour choice and the lighting in the 430 sq. ft. boutique is said to have been inspired by the Rub’ al Khali desert and the Sabkha salt flats.
The store’s overall look and feel is a subtle move on from its counterpart flagship in Dubai. Inside the product mix has been curated specifically for the region and features handbags as well as the extensive shoe offering.
