New York parfumier Le Labo has opened a flagship store in Toronto in the trendy Trinity Bellwoods neighbourhood.
The store is located on Queen Street West, one of the two primary shopping streets that anchor either end of the famous Trinity Bellwoods Park.
The Le Labo store aesthetic is a good match for its location; the brand’s look and feel is artisan with a utilitarian twist. The business mixes its handcrafted fragrances on site and the store environment, without any sense of being twee, managing to foster a distinctly vintage apothecary vibe.
On the walls some of the off-white tiling looks antique and is purposely left unfinished. Inspired by the Japanese theory of “wabi-sabi”, which emphasizes the beauty that can be found in flaws, there is also a wall lined with peeling and water stained wallpaper to add to this aged effect.
The premixed oils for the brand’s scents are kept refrigerated and then mixed to order on the premises with water and alcohol.
When Le Labo enters a city with its own store it mixes a unique fragrance to celebrate, which can only be bought in that location. So with the opening of Le Labo in Queen Street West Toronto now has its own signature scent.
