Men’s shoemaker, Joseph Cheaney has opened its fifth store, in London’s Covent Garden. Designed by Checkland Kindleysides, no two stores Cheaney stores are the same with each intended to reflect its location.

The new store provides a clean and contemporary space, celebrating craftsmanship. The shoes are displayed on pegboards with printed graphics next to this showing shoemaker’s tools. Rolls of leather displayed next to the shoes emphasise nature of the product.

The elegance and proportions of the Grade II listed interior, with high ceilings and large sash windows, are complemented by a pared back concept. The tall, arched windows of the shopfront, provide clear views into the store.

Inside, the front of the store provides a ‘gallery’ for footwear collections. The pale colour palette of this space is contrasted by the inky blue of the ‘lounge’ area towards the back of the store, where customers are fitted with their shoes.

This is a new store reflecting traditional values.
