THE EAMES CHAIR POP-UP

Furniture maker, Vitra has opened pop-up stores celebrating the Eames Chair in Zurich and Amsterdam.

The chairs were created by American designers Charles and Ray Eames as part of a competition in 1948 for New York’s Museum of Modern Art. The first chairs were manufactured by Vitra.

The Eames temporary concept proves the single product shop trend continues. In-store, customers can personalise their own chairs choosing between 14 different armchair and chair shells with a wide array of bases, colours and upholstery options. Customers can also access tablets and large touch screens to customise their own design or access Vitra’s 100,000 products to order on-line while in the store.

In an innovative approach, the coloured plastic chairs line the exterior of the shop window, resembling a bus stop. The simple designed interior space features the chairs hanging from wooden frames with different upholstery fabrics being displayed.

The stores will be open until 27 of January.
