The state of male facial hair and the growth of the beard amongst the millennial demographic has supercharged a whole new type of barber business, the dandy barber.
One such emporium is Canadian barber chain Barber & Co which has built a chain of five hipster hair joints in Vancouver and has now branched out to create a hair salon with a difference in Toronto’s trendy Ossington neighbourhood.
The proposition may have a tongue in cheek feel with its window displaying a female mannequin sitting under a 50’s style hairdryer which works as a lamp indicating that the bar is open, when darkness falls. But Barber & Co is serious about the service on offer with the barbershop also hosting a bar/café and a training school for would-be barbers.
Inside, the look is kept stark with simple white walls that allow the barbers’ chairs to make the design statement.
The shop serves drinks during the day including local beers and cider. By night it turns into a cocktail bar complete with a house cocktail menu and trained barmen.
