BERSHKA HITS THE BIG APPLE

Bershka, a youth fashion brand from the Inditex Group, owner of Zara, has opened its first US store, a pop- up in SoHo, New York city. It’s also the first pop-up for the brand globally.

The opening follows the launch of its online store in the US earlier in the year and is a sign of retailers increasingly testing the market online before investing in bricks and mortar (something that H&M brand Arket did recently when it opened in 18 countries online on the same day that it opened its first physical store in London).

The store features the brand’s interior design concept of the ‘stage’. The perimeter of the space is lined with truss scaffolding with attached speakers and lighting.

Given the youthful target audience and its environmental conscience, this Bershka is also focused on things green, committing to low energy use and waste, as well as the use of recyclables

 It remains to be seen whether this pop-up translates into a permanent physical presence in the US.
