BALMAIN OPENS IN LOS ANGELES

French luxury apparel brand Balmain has created a west coast flagship on Los Angeles’ Melrose Avenue.

The 2,400 sq ft store in West Hollywood showcases the brand’s men’s, women’s and kid’s clothing and accessories collections. The store concept was designed by Studio KO, Paris and the original building dates back to 1948.

Externally the boutique has a smart dark green stucco exterior – said to be inspired by Villa Balmain, the Italian vacation home of house founder Pierre Balmain.  The shop’s interior takes it cues from that modernist Mediterranean space, making the most of the building’s original vaulted ceilings.

Black marble floors and plastered walls are kept largely unadorned while a large back garden is landscaped with black and gray stone and planted in low, dark green and white flowering plants.

Massimo Piombini, Balmain’s CEO said:  ” We know that the house has a very loyal clientele in California—due in no small part to Olivier’s (Olivier Rousteing, Balmain’s Creative Director ) channeling of his love for the spirit of the West Coast into his collections. This new address now allows us to present a much more complete selection of Olivier’s designs for men, women, kids, and accessories than we’ve been able to do up to now.”
